Each area has its own community and particular charms. West and South Maui tend to be more resort areas, with golf courses, large hotels, and shopping and restaurants. Central Maui oceanfront is located close to the airports and the centers of island business.

Central Maui includes Kahakuloa, Waihee, Waiehu, Wailuku, Kahului and Maalaea
East Maui includes Keanae, Nahiku, Hana, Kipahulu and Kaupo
